Project detail:
The project is a Technical Assistance (TA) initiative supporting Maha Metro in developing sustainable and energy-efficient metro rail operations, initially for Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase 2. Key activities include development of a large battery storage system for traction power, a mobile application for safe accessibility to metro rail and feeder systems, and support for financial sustainability. Phase 2 will extend the existing Nagpur Metro network by 43.8 km, connecting northern and eastern urban areas with industrial and economic hubs in the southern and western parts of the Nagpur metropolitan area. The combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 network is expected to cater to approximately 590,000 passenger trips by 2031.
