Project detail:
The program aims to strengthen resilience to heat stress by enhancing the manufacturing and adoption of affordable, energy-efficient cooling devices. It addresses increasing cooling demand, limited access to affordable cooling, high upfront costs, inadequate domestic manufacturing capacity, and the need for more energy-efficient technologies. Key activities include strengthening R&D and manufacturing capacity, establishing Centers of Excellence, supporting MSMEs, developing cooling parks, scaling production of efficient devices, promoting market adoption through incentives and awareness programs, and mobilizing private capital. The program covers ceiling fans, room air conditioners (RACs), cold rooms, and district cooling systems (DCS). It is also expected to create green/skilled employment and support private-sector growth.
Project Cost: US$700 million total Government Program/Operation Cost, comprising US$350 million World Bank financing and US$350 million Government contribution.
