Brief Information of the Project : Ballada Bauxite block covers an area of 144.945 ha. The letter of Intent for Mining lease of bauxite has been issued by letter no SM-MC2-MC-0007-2023/2143/S&M Bhubaneswar dated 1st March 2023 by Steel and Mines Department, Government of Odisha. The lease area is located between latitudes 18°26'05.61588" N to 18°27'13.34448" N and Longitude 82°39'32.39136" to 82°40'25.36716" E. and is covered under Survey of India toposheet no. No. E44K11 (65J/11). The proposed project falls in schedule 1 (a) (i) Mining of Minerals of Category 'B'.
Need for the Project And Its Importance to the Country or Region : Bauxite is basically an aluminous rock containing hydrated aluminum oxide as the main constituent and iron oxide, silica and titania in varying proportions. Hydrated aluminum oxides present in the bauxite ore occur in form of three minerals, viz, Gibbsite, Boehmite & Diaspore. Bauxite is an essential ore of aluminum which is one of the most important nonferrous metals used in the modern industry. It is also an essential ore for refractory and chemical industries. The country has abundant resources of bauxite which can meet both domestic and export demands
