Project detail:
Air pollution in the Indo-Gangetic Plain is a multifaceted challenge arising from diverse economic activities, where investments in emission control have not kept pace with growth. Integrated solutions across sectors, coupled with behavioral changes, are essential to achieve cleaner air. While the transportation sector is a wellrecognized contributor to pollution, significant sources like poor agricultural practices—such as excessive fertilizer use and inadequate management of animal waste—are often overlooked. Secondary emissions, which form when gases from various sources mix to create PM2.5, account for nearly 50% of particulate matter in Indian cities. These emissions often travel across state and even international borders, making air pollution a sub-regional, national, and international issue that requires coordinated action.
