Project detail:
The impact of the TA will be the access to reliable and sustainable solar energy in Uttar Pradesh achieved. The outcome will be the policy, guidelines, and development plan for agrophotovoltaics (AgriPV) technology in Uttar Pradesh developed. The output activities include (i) At least 1 AgriPV demonstration project tested/implemented, (ii) capacity and knowledge of executing agency and farmers (at least 30% women) on AgriPV technology developed, and (iii) an AgriPV development roadmap for Uttar Pradesh prepared. Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy To meet a growing energy demand with minimal climate change impact, the Government of India has set various targets for scaling up of renewable energy in its generation mix. At the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Glasgow (COP26) in November 2021, the Government of India has announced to achieve 500 giga-watts (GW) of renewable energy installed capacity and 50% of renewable energy in energy mix by 2030. In the same summit, the Government of India also pledged to cut the emissions to net zero by 2070. Further, in Dubai COP28 in December 2023, the Government of India has committed its climate action targets of (i) achieving 50% of cumulative installed capacity for electricity generation from non-fossil fuel-based sources by 2030, and (ii) reducing the carbon intensity by 45% by 2030 from 2005 level, and (iii) to be a carbon neutral country by 2070.
