Project detail:
Brief Description of Nature of Project. The project has been applied for process obtaining environmental clearance. Sandstone deposit occurs in one variety only i.e. splittable. The entire deposit is laminated. Thickness between two cleavage planes varies from 0.6 to 15 m. The splittablity of stone is decided by the presence of bedding plane, whose separation decides the thickness of the slabs, which are used in roof. Vertical joints are the other weakness planes, which traversed throughout the field. The distance between such joints varies place to place. These vertical joints are mostly perpendicular to bedding planes. Advantage is taken of the presence of such planes in quarrying. Compressive strength of stone varies from 40 to 120 MPA. The fine and medium grained varieties of sandstone offer more strength and durability than the coarse grained ones. Conventional Extraction Practices in Sandstone Quarry (Here it is being described general mining method but actual mining will be carried out in compliance of approved simplified mining scheme of individual quarry.) The overburden in this area is in the form of weathered sandstone with several variations (called "Gur" in local language) having thickness up to 1.0 m. As the overburden is loose in nature so it is being removed manually. Usable sandstone is quarried mainly by conventional hand tools i.e. chisel, hammer. Blocks are splitted in slabs and khanda. Roof Slab: The extracted blocks are splitted into roof slabs of 3.00 m, 3.30 m, 3.60 m length, 0.25 m, 0.30 m width and 7.5 cm & 10 cm thickness. These roof slabs are made from splittable sandstone along weak planes. Building stone: These are prepared from the non-blockable sandstone in the size of 0.30 cum.
