Alleviating Heat Stress by Enhancing Production of Affordable cooling Devices (P508719).
The AHEAD PforR Program (‘P’, the Program) will support select activities of the Government program where the WBG can add most value. The Program will support three result areas (RAs), aimed at enhancing access to affordable and energy-efficient cooling, creating green jobs, and mobilizing private capital to ensure the sector’s long-term sustainability. The three RAs are synergistic, mutually reinforcing, and designed to address cooling sector challenges through a comprehensive approach. Activities under the three RAs will be carried out concurrently and disbursements will be made towards the achievement of scalable disbursement-linked indicators (DLIs) throughout the Program cycle. The RAs focus on improving the availability of affordable and energy-efficient devices across three value chains - ceiling fans, RACs, cold rooms, and to improve adoption of DCS in India. Recognizing affordability as a key issue, AHEAD focuses on energy-efficient cold rooms to strengthen the farm-to-fork supply chain, reduce food loss, and enhance agricultural productivity. These objectives directly address the challenge of combating extreme heat stress.
