The TA will: (i) prepare a fully costed and prioritized sanitation master plan for the Koror and Airai area, and (ii) develop an investment project incorporating high priority components identified in the sanitation master plan. The Sanitation Sector Deelopment Project will benefit from the preparatory assessments already undertken by the Babeldaob Water Supply Project PPTA and will compliment the creation of a water supply and sanitation utility with capacity development in sanitation and the sewerage operations. |

The PPTA is identified in the Country Partnership Strategy 2009-2013, as strategy objective 3, Deliver safe water and sanitation services to Palauans. Investment in sewerage collection and treatment infrastructure is a high infrastructure priority in Palau. identified as one of the top priorities in the Palau Medium Term Development Strategy 2009-2014, Actions for the Future (MTDS). |
Impact |
TA impact is efficient, effective, and affordable sanitation services. Strengthening basic infrastructure will facilitate tourism sector investment in Palau and particularly in Koror, the country's center of tourism activity. It will improve the health and security of the resident population currently experiencing sewerage outflows. Environmental risks of the treatment works will also be mitigated through this activity. The works will be prepared with climate change risk considerations to ensure further environmental protection and sustainability. |
