Project Detail:
M/s. VRKP Sponge and Power Plant LLP (VRKP) is proposed to go for expansion in the existing plant at Halakundi village, Bellary (T & D), Karnataka and envisaged to produce the following product through different routes.
Steel is a basic commodity for economic growth of any country and the per capita consumption is a measure of prosperity of a country. The per capita steel consumption has risen from 38 kg in 2005-06 to 61 kg in 2017-18, compared to global average of 208 kg. The per capita steel consumption in rural sector is only 10 kg. The crude steel production capacity had increased from 22 million tons per annum (MTPA) in 1991-92 to 91 MTPA in 2015-16 (installed capacity is 122 MTPA) and 101 MTPA in 2016-17. The Indian steel industry is ranked 3rdin the world and has tremendous potential for growth. The government of India has set pragmatic target of achieving per capita steel consumption of 160kgs by 2030-31 requiring a crude steel production of 255 MT and capacity of 300 MT.
Plant is located at Halakundi village, Bellary (T & D), Karnataka.
Total land earmarked for the project is 88.15 Ha. (217.82 Acres) i.e. partly in Existing Land area of 35.6 Ha. (87.97 Acres) & adjoining Additional Land of 52.55 Ha. (129.85 Acres].
The entire plant site will fall in the Survey of India topo sheet no. 57 A/16.
Estimated project cost for the proposed expansion project is Rs. 570 Crores
