Mormugao Port is a Major Port on the West Coast of India in service to thenation’s maritime trade. It is located at latitude 15° 25’ N and longitude 73° 47’ Ebetween two Major Ports of New Mangalore and Mumbai. It is located at themouth of the river Zuari. The location of Mormugao Port on the west coast ofIndia is depicted in the Figures 1.1 and 1.2. The Port serves the geographicalregions of Goa, Karnataka and parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Majorcommodities being handled at the Port are Coal, Iron Ore, POL and generalcargo items. Because of the proximity of the Port with various mining regions inGoa, the Port assumed the role of a premier Iron Ore exporting port of thecountry. However, the requirements of coal from various steel industries andpower generating units have made it an attractive and cost effective destinationfor coal imports and steel exports.
South West Port Ltd. (SWPL), a JSW group company operates two berths,namely berth no. 5A & 6A in the Mormugao Port on BOOT basis to handle itsgroup cargo.
