Description |
This TA seeks to develop a regional climate projections consortium for the provision of robust climate information and supporting services, as well as to develop and deliver decision-oriented climate data and projections, and enhance technical capacity of the implementing agencies in the four pilot countries (India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand). A wide range of activities, including consultation and analysis of needs for climate information and capacity strengthening, targeted climate modeling and model performance evaluation, scenario analyses, thematic training, communications and outreach, are planned to deliver the following outputs: (i)a regional Climate Projections Consortium for Asia and the Pacific; (ii) climate information products and services for pilot countries, and general knowledge products for all DMCs, and (iii) enhanced technical capacity for developing and applying climate information products and services. |
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy |
The absence of scientifically credible climate information, and of clear guidelines for its interpretation and use, have been identified as strong impediments to the robust assessment of risks related to climate change, and to the design and implementation of effective adaptation and development projects within Asia and the Pacific. The proposed TA is designed to address these issues and to lay a solid foundation for the development of regional public goods and services in the form of scientifically robust and decision-oriented climate data and projections in a cost-effective fashion through the establishment of a regional consortium. |
