Project Detail:
The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has been exploiting coal for more than 129 years. Pranahita-Godavari valley coal field is a NNW-SSE trending basin belt on the Precambrian platform. It is one of the principal Gondwana basins in India and follows the course of Pranahita and Godavari rivers over a strike length of 470 km. The south sector over 350 km length lying in the districts of Komaram Bheem (Asifabad), Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jaya Shankar Bhoopalpalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam of Telangana State is referred as Godavari Valley Coal Field (GVCF)
The Project Proponent is SCCL, a Government coal mining company jointly owned by the Government of Telangana and Government of India on 51:49 equity basis respectively. SCCL is the first largest public sector undertaking in the State with manpower of 45,312 as on 31.07.2020. It is the only coal mining company catering to the needs of thermal power plants and other coal based industries in South India. SCCL is currently operating 19 opencast mines and 27 underground mines. The SCCL has the onerous responsibility of meeting large portion of coal demand in this part of the country.
This project is an operating opencast coal mining project for which rated production capacity is envisaged to be enhanced from 2.00 MTPA to 4.00 MTPA. Presently, coal is being extracted by using shovel-dumper combination and the same equipment combination will be continued. The method of work with shovel-dumper combination comprises of the prime operational components such as removal of topsoil, Initial opening of box cut, removal of overburden & inter burden to expose the coal seams and extraction of coal. It is proposed to continue extraction of coal departmentally and OB removal by hiring equipment (except meagre quantity from inter parting by departmental HEMM)
The existing coal production capacity of GK OCP is 2.00 MTPA and it is proposed to expansion in production up to 4.00 MTPA. The total area of the project is 902.00ha
