PID : 25825 Karnataka-India

Project Detail:

Future Facilities/Investment Plans at Old Mangalore Port:
1) The road connecting NH-66 at Panambur and Bengre port area is 10.00 Km long. The New Mangalore Port Authority has developed four lane concrete road from Ch 0.000 to 2.500 Km. By upgrading the balance length from 2.500 to 10.000 Km of Panambur - Bengre road, connecting National Highway 66, quick access and easy approach to the proposed coastal berth on Bengre Village side may be achieved.
2) Construction of coastal berth at Old Mangaluru Port (Bengre Side) is proposed, but unless Capital Dredging at Old Mangalore Port is executed the purpose of coastal berth on Bengre side will not be served to its extent.
3) Since, the Bar mouth requires periodic maintenance dredging, may be due to the termination of break water at shallow depth. Hence, this Port cannot be utilized to its optimum cargo handling capacity due to shallow depth (4.00m). If the Bar Mouth and the Channel is dredged to higher depth (7.00m), the Cargo handling capacity of Old Mangalore Port can be increased. So, It is essential to conduct a scientific study regarding deepening of bar mouth by extension of break waters to the higher depths.
4) Well equipped security system including HHMD, DFMD, Automatic identification system (AIS), VHF base station, Walkie-talkie, watch towers, patrolling Boats with Single Entry/Exit system.
