Project Title :Delhi approves Rs 860-cr plan to build decentralised STPs along Najafgarh Drain
Company Name : Private Company
Project Detail :The Delhi government has approved an Rs 860-crore project to install 12 decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) along the Najafgarh drain, the largest source of pollution entering the Yamuna River.
Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said that untreated sewage from many unauthorised colonies and villages currently flows directly into the drain, creating a serious environmental and sanitation crisis. The new plants will treat wastewater locally at sites including Kair, Kakrola, Galibpur, Jaffarpur and Kazipur Shikarpur before it reaches the Yamuna. The project will also improve sanitation in 120 unauthorised colonies and 27 villages while reducing monsoon waterlogging in outer Delhi. Funded under the Centre’s AMRUT scheme, the plan includes construction, operation and maintenance (O&M) of the plants for 15 years.
The Delhi Jal Board currently operates 27 sewage treatment plants (STPs), with 18 under upgrade. The new DSTPs will add 40 MGD treatment capacity as the BJP-led government targets 1,250 MGD sewage treatment capacity by June 2027 to support a cleaner Yamuna. Officials believe decentralised treatment will ease pressure on existing infrastructure and provide a long-term solution to Delhi’s worsening river pollution problem overall.
