| Project Detail : | National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute in Oslo to strengthen technical expertise in tunnel engineering, and highway infrastructure development. The collaboration aims to bring advanced international geotechnical capabilities to infrastructure projects in geologically sensitive and challenging regions across India. Under the agreement, the Norwegian institute will provide consultancy services for tunnel site characterisation, feasibility studies, detailed project reports, structural assessments and safety audits of operational tunnels. The partnership will also focus on advanced slope stability assessments, interpretation of InSAR data and development of early warning systems to improve infrastructure safety and reduce risks linked to landslides and natural hazards. Officials said the initiative will support the construction of safer, stronger and more resilient highways, especially in regions vulnerable to geological instability. Apart from technical consultancy, the MoU also emphasises institutional capacity building and knowledge exchange through joint research and development initiatives. Workshops, seminars, training programmes and technical publications will further enhance technical capabilities in India’s highway and tunnel infrastructure sector over the next five years significantly. |
