Senior officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with representatives from multiple departments including district administrations, Kota Development Authority, Power Grid, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), and the Forest Department, participated in the review through video conferencing. Officials informed that construction work is progressing as per schedule, with the runway expected to be ready for aircraft operations by October 2027 and full commercial flight operations likely to commence by December 2027. The airport is being developed over 1,088 acres and will feature a 3.2-km runway designed to accommodate large aircraft, with an annual passenger handling capacity of around two million passengers. During the meeting, Speaker Om Birla also suggested exploring the development of an maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility near the airport to strengthen aviation-linked industrial growth and employment generation. Additionally, he proposed evaluating the establishment of a flying training school at the site of the existing old airport to further enhance aviation ecosystem development in the region. |
