Company Name : Private Company
Project Detail :Ministry of Railways has formally initiated the land acquisition process for the proposed third railway line between Naihati and Ranaghat under the Eastern Railway network.
According to a notification issued by the Railway Ministry’s Construction Department and published in the Gazette of India on 26 May, 2026, land in Nadia district has been identified for acquisition under the provisions of the Railways (Amendment) Act, 2008. The notification confirms the Central government’s intent to acquire the required land for the Naihati–Ranaghat Third Line Project and invites objections from landowners and affected parties within 30 days of publication. The land acquisition process will be overseen by the Additional District Magistrate (Land Acquisition), Nadia. The proposed third railway line is aimed at easing congestion on the heavily used Sealdah–Ranaghat suburban corridor, which handles large volumes of daily commuter traffic between Kolkata and adjoining districts.
The additional line is expeced to increase operational flexibility and support future growth in both passenger and freight traffic movement. The project is expected to strengthen suburban rail connectivity in West Bengal while enhancing overall network efficiency on one of the region’s busiest commuter rail sections.
