| Project Title : | Work resumes on last underpass of Pragati Maidan transit corridor in Delhi, completion expected by Feb |
| Company Name : | Private Company |
| Project Detail : | Construction work on Underpass No. 5, the final underpass of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor in central Delhi, has resumed after a three-year delay caused by clearance and design challenges. The project has now completed the box-pushing stage, and stitching work has begun, with completion targeted for February 2027. The revival of work follows in-principle approval from the Railways for a revised construction method using the cast in-situ technique, replacing earlier plans that faced technical hurdles. PWD Minister Parvesh Verma stated that the revised approach has significantly reduced railway disruption requirements, now limiting train movement restrictions to a few days instead of the earlier estimated 40 days. Located near Bhairon Marg, the underpass is part of the broader Pragati Maidan transit corridor designed to improve connectivity between Ring Road and Pragati Maidan, especially around the Bharat Mandapam complex. The structure will function as a two-lane underpass for light motor vehicles only, following design modifications that reduced its height and width to overcome engineering constraints. The project had stalled since mid-2023 due to structural issues, groundwater challenges, and railway alignment complexities, but revised engineering solutions have now enabled its restart. |
