| Project Detail : | GMR Group has begun the first phase of infrastructure expansion at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur through its subsidiary GMR Nagpur International Airport (GNIAL), following recent Union Cabinet approval for the long-pending redevelopment plan. The initiative marks the formal commencement of a comprehensive airport overhaul aimed at significantly increasing both passenger and cargo handling capacity. As part of the rollout, GNIAL has issued a large-scale four-part tender designed to enable parallel execution and faster completion of works across multiple infrastructure segments. The first package focuses on the expansion and modernisation of the existing passenger terminal, including structural upgrades, civil works, finishing, and facility enhancements to improve passenger experience. The second package covers airside and landside improvements such as runway-related pavements, taxiways, apron development, drainage systems, and access roads. The third package includes excavation and formation works for future expansion, while the fourth focuses on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems including HVAC, firefighting, stormwater drainage, plumbing, and lighting infrastructure. The project is aligned with strengthening Nagpur’s role as a logistics and multimodal hub under the MIHAN ecosystem. The expansion follows Cabinet approval extending land lease arrangements, enabling GNIAL’s 30-year operational concession for long-term airport development and growth strategy. |
