| Project Title : | Pipeline plan and canal repairs worth Rs 4,500-cr proposed to boost Yamuna flow |
| Company Name : | Private Company |
| Project Detail : | Two major proposals have been submitted to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to rejuvenate the Yamuna by increasing water flow and reducing wastage in the supply system. The first proposal focuses on diverting irrigation water through a new pipeline network. It suggests reducing water diversion from the Jani regulator to the Hindon and instead releasing 500 cusecs directly into the Yamuna from the Muradnagar regulator via a 29-km twin pipeline system. Each pipeline will carry 250 cusecs, with the total project estimated at Rs 4,500 crore. The plan ensures that the existing 1,800 cusecs allocation for the Agra Canal remains unchanged, balancing irrigation and environmental needs. This additional flow is expected to maintain minimum water levels and dilute pollution in Delhi’s stretch of the river. The second proposal targets the Delhi Sub Branch Canal, where nearly 30 percent of 330 cusecs is lost due to seepage over 102 km. By improving canal lining, about 100 cusecs can be saved, reducing the need to extract additional water from the Yamuna and helping sustain ecological flow. |
