The agreement was signed during a national research and development workshop organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Under the partnership, the Department of Water Resources and ISRO will collaborate on 24 priority research areas, including reservoir monitoring, water-spread assessment, river-flow analysis, satellite-based water quality monitoring, and studies on macroplastic distribution in water bodies. The initiative aims to improve scientific water management and support sustainable resource planning through advanced technology. The Ministry also launched the third phase of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari campaign, targeting the creation of two crore water conservation structures by May 2027. Additionally, the MAHA-Water programme and Bharat Water Innovation Network initiatives were introduced to promote research, innovation, startups, and MSME participation in the water sector. At the event, Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil said, "Water security is a critical foundation for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Solutions to water-related challenges must be driven by technology, innovation, traditional knowledge and people's participation." |
