| Project Title : | MCD’s waste-to-energy plant at Narela-Bawana faces delay |
| Company Name : | Private Company |
| Project Detail : | The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) proposed waste-to-energy plant at Narela-Bawana is facing fresh delays due to infrastructure coordination issues involving an upcoming elevated metro corridor. Despite an allocation of Rs 26.4 crore for shifting 400 kV transmission lines and initiation of preliminary site work, progress has been stalled by design and relocation challenges. The issue emerged after it was determined that unipole heights must be increased to accommodate the metro alignment, requiring redesign of transmission infrastructure. While the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has agreed to bear additional costs, the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), responsible for executing the relocation, has stated that design modifications are necessary, complicating execution. The transmission assets are jointly owned by Delhi Transco and PGCIL. Earlier timelines had targeted completion by June, but the work remains pending due to inter-agency coordination challenges. The civic body has escalated the matter to the Delhi government, seeking intervention and urging further escalation to the Lieutenant Governor’s office for faster resolution. |
