| Project Detail : | The French company SUEZ is in the final stages of a walk-through survey of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) pipeline network across Kochi Corporation limits. This ground-level inspection, based on observation and expertise without excavation, is expected to conclude soon, though officials note it may only be about 50 percent accurate. Verification through trial pits and planned excavations will follow in uncertain areas. These surveys, alongside pipeline mapping, aim to support a comprehensive redesign or strengthening of the network. Kochi currently reports around 10 pipeline leaks daily, highlighting the urgency of the project. Data gathered from inspections and repairs, including pipe material, quality, and diameter, is being integrated into a digital mapping system to build a reliable database. The Rs 1,141.28-crore initiative, funded by the Asian Development Bank, began after KWA signed an agreement with SUEZ last year. So far, about 1,500 km of pipelines and 3,500 households have been surveyed, with plans to expand coverage further. |
