| Project Detail : | The Kerala government has expedited land acquisition for the proposed Integrated Defence Industrial Park (IDIP) at Kuttichal near Kattakada.
The project, to be developed under the Kerala Space Park initiative, will span around 100 acres and is expected to attract an investment of approx. Rs 1,000 crore. It is envisioned as a major hub for manufacturing defence-related products, components and advanced tools, aligning with India’s push for indigenous defence production and self-reliance in strategic technologies. Officials said the land acquisition process is being prioritised so that preliminary works can begin soon after formal approvals. The project is closely linked to the proposed expansion of BrahMos Aerospace in the Kattakada region, which is expected to act as an anchor unit for the defence ecosystem The Kerala government has also approved allocation of around 180 acres at Nettukaltheri for a new BrahMos missile production facility, further strengthening the state’s aerospace capabilities. Together, these initiatives aim to develop a strong defence manufacturing cluster, attract global and domestic players, and generate high-skilled employment while boosting precision engineering, electronics and advanced defence production infrastructure in the region over the coming years.
