| Project Detail : | After nearly a decade of slow progress, railway connectivity projects linking Jeypore with Nabarangpur and Malkangiri in southern Odisha have gained momentum, with authorities beginning land compensation payments to affected villagers. The development marks a key step forward for the long-pending infrastructure initiatives first proposed in the Union Budget 2016–17. The projects include a 42 km railway line to Nabarangpur and a 130 km line to Malkangiri, aimed at improving regional connectivity and integrating remote tribal areas with mainstream economic activity. Once completed, the lines are expected to boost local trade, mobility, and overall development in southern Odisha. In Jeypore tehsil, compensation disbursement has begun, with Rs 37 crore allocated for land acquisition across 15 villages, according to officials. Land acquisition will also extend to Borigumma and Boipariguda tehsils The Malkangiri line will require over 1,056 acres across 71 villages in Koraput and Malkangiri districts, while the Nabarangpur line involves nearly 700 acres across 27 villages in Koraput and Nabarangpur. |
