Project Title :MSETCL to invest Rs 1.5 lakh cr to modernise trasmission network, expand renewables capacity
Company Name : Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co. Limited
Project Detail :Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL) has announced plans to invest Rs 1.5 lakh crore over the next five to seven years to modernize the state’s power transmission network and expand renewable energy capacity.
In the near term, projects worth Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 crore will be initiated, supported by Rs 7,000 crore already on the books and an expected additional Rs 3,000 crore by the end of FY26. With an equity contribution of 25–30 percent, the company aims to leverage the remaining funding to implement these projects efficiently. MSETCL, the country’s largest state transmission utility, operates over 52,000 circuit kilometers of network with a transmission capacity exceeding 140,000 MVA. A key challenge remains the upgradation of lines, as more than 40percent of them are over 35 years old. The investment will focus on strengthening the backbone of the grid while following the tariff based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework to ensure transparent and competitive project execution.
The company also aims to increase the share of renewables in the capacity mix from 30 percent currently to 60 percent by 2030. Alongside, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company plans to provide 24×7 renewable power with 2.5 GW capacity, backed by private investments through tariff-based bidding.
