| Project Detail : | The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved enhanced delegation of powers to NTPC Limited, allowing it to invest up to ?20,000 crore in its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL). This is a significant increase from the previously approved limit of ?7,500 crore under existing Maharatna CPSE investment guidelines. The move enables NGEL to further invest in NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL) and its joint ventures or subsidiaries to accelerate renewable energy capacity addition. This enhanced investment scope is aimed at helping NTPC achieve its target of 60 GW renewable energy capacity by 2032. This development is expected to fast-track the implementation of clean energy projects across India, strengthen the power infrastructure, and ensure consistent, round-the-clock electricity supply nationwide. The renewable energy projects will also create direct and indirect employment opportunities during both construction and operations & maintenance phases. Additionally, they will support local suppliers, MSMEs, and promote entrepreneurship, contributing to broader socio-economic growth. India has achieved a landmark in its energy transition journey by reaching 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources - five years ahead of the target set under its Nationally Determined Contributions to the Paris Agreement. The country is aiming to reach 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. As a Central Public Sector Enterprise and the leading Power Utility of the Country, NTPC, aims to add 60 GW of Renewable Energy Capacity by 2032 which will help the Country in achieving the aforesaid target and move towards larger aim of having ‘Net Zero’ emissions by 2070. |
