| Project Detail : | The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line project. Representing India’s inaugural semi high-speed rail corridor, the initiative carries an estimated investment of Rs 20,667 crore. The 134-km line is scheduled for completion by 2030-31 and will leverage indigenously developed technology to enhance domestic engineering capabilities. Strategically integrated under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the route connects Ahmedabad with the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), the upcoming Dholera airport, and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex. The corridor aims to drastically reduce travel times, facilitating easy daily commutes and same-day return trips. This infrastructure leap is expected to serve as a catalyst for regional economic growth, directly benefiting 284 villages and a population of approx. five lakh people. As a pioneer model, the project will establish the technical standards and operational framework for the future expansion of semi-high-speed rail networks across India, modernising the country's multi-modal logistics and passenger transport systems. |
