| Company Name : | Cabinet Committee On Economic Affairs |
| Project Detail : | The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved two major railway multitracking projects in West Bengal, India and Jharkhand, India at an estimated cost of Rs 4,474 crore. The projects involve constructing a fourth railway line on the Sainthia–Pakur and Santragachi–Kharagpur sections, adding about 192 km to the Indian Railways network, with completion targeted by 2030–31. These additional lines are expected to increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve operational efficiency and service reliability on these busy routes. Covering five districts across the two states, the projects are anticipated to benefit around 5,652 villages with a population of approx. 14.7 million. The upgraded lines will support the transport of commodities such as coal, cement, foodgrains, petroleum products, and steel, enabling an additional 31 million tonne of freight annually. Planned under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the projects aim to enhance multimodal connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and lower fuel consumption. The government estimates the initiatives could cut oil imports by 60 million litres and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 280 million kilograms, supporting sustainable transport. |
