Project Detail :The Delhi government has announced a December 2027 deadline for completing water and sewer line installations in all unauthorised colonies across the city. At present, sewer lines have been laid in 1,224 unauthorised colonies, with work ongoing in another 159.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat with Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials and Urban Development Minister Pravesh Verma to assess the progress of water and sewerage projects, Yamuna rejuvenation, and budgetary planning. Gupta highlighted that rejuvenating the Yamuna River is both an ethical and environmental obligation.
The government is implementing a multi-pronged strategy, including drain treatment, expansion of the sewerage network, and construction of advanced sewage treatment plants (STPs). As part of this mission, the government has launched a comprehensive 45-point action plan aimed at eliminating pollution in the Yamuna and transforming it into a clean, vibrant, and accessible river.
The CM also stressed the need to replace outdated infrastructure using modern technology through phased planning, and highlighted that access to clean drinking water and proper sewage systems is fundamental to creating a developed and sustainable.
