Project Title :Hilton Metal Forging manufactures indigenous rail wagon wheelsets in India
Company Name : Private Company
Project Detail :Hilton Metal Forging has successfully manufactured and secured RITES approval for its Railway Forged Wagon Wheelsets, marking a significant milestone in domestic railway component production. Each wheelset comprises two forged wheels and one forged axle, with four wheelsets required per coach or wagon.
This development positions Hilton to meet the rising demand of Indian railway wagon manufacturers and reduce dependence on Chinese imports. Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the company plans to manufacture over 3,000 wheelsets in FY26, scaling up to more than 12,000 in FY27. The total installed capacity is planned at 20,000 wheelsets annually.
India’s government aims to boost freight movement through railways from the current 27 percent to 45 percent by 2030, driven by network electrification (98 percent ) and initiatives like Mission Raftaar to increase train speeds. In FY25, India produced 41,929 freight wagons, 1,681 locomotives (up 19 percent from FY24), and 7,134 passenger coaches (up from 6,541 in FY24).
Additionally, around 90,000 railway units—freight wagons, passenger coaches, and locomotives—undergo periodic maintenance annually across 44 railway workshops nationwide. Hilton’s move supports the growing demand for quality, indigenous railway components and aligns with India’s infrastructure modernization efforts.
