| Project Title : | Delhi Jal Board plans new water treatment plants at Narela, Najafgarh |
| Company Name : | Delhi Jal Board |
| Project Detail : | The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) plans to set up new water treatment plants (WTPs) at Narela, Najafgarh, and Chhattarpur. Officials also confirmed that work is being expedited at upcoming WTPs in Chandrawal and Dwarka. These efforts aim to boost the city’s water treatment capacity and bridge the current supply-demand gap of 250 million gallons per day (mgd). DJB currently operates nine WTPs, supplying about 1,000 mgd, against a demand of approx. 1,250 mgd. During a recent government review, DJB reported that sufficient land for the new plants has been identified and inspected. “During the exercise, the DJB found that sufficient land is available, and this has been inspected,” a senior official said. To augment raw water availability, DJB is also eyeing new dams in Himachal Pradesh and plans to push for a review of the 1994 inter-state Yamuna water sharing agreement. In the short term, a project involving 452 tubewells is expected to add 26 mgd by September. Additionally, 50 mgd will come from Dwarka’s second WTP phase, targeted for completion by December, though its water source remains undecided. |
