Project Title :Lucknow MC to establish Rs 450 cr waste-to-energy plant at Shivri
Company Name : Lucknow Municipal Corporation
Project Detail :The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is set to establish a waste-to-energy (WtE) plant at Shivri, aiming to manage municipal waste and generate electricity from refuse derived fuel (RDF). The plant will process RDF made from non-recyclable plastics, paper, cardboard, and other combustible inorganics collected from Lucknow and nearby municipalities.
By processing RDF locally, the project will reduce the high cost of transporting waste nearly 500 km to cement factories. The Rs 450 crore project involves a 15 MW RDF-to-electricity facility, utilizing 1,000–1,200 tonne of RDF produced daily in the city. Developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model using the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) structure, the funding will be split among a private partner (50 percent, the state/local body (25 percent), and the central government (25 percent) through Viability Gap Funding (VGF).
Additional Municipal Commissioner Arvind Rao said the plant will help manage waste and generate electricity. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal added it aligns with waste and energy goals, and will be completed in over two years on 20–25 acres, requiring three million litres of water per day. The plant includes emission control systems and may repurpose residual ash in construction.
