Project Title :Hafeez Contractor to design New Bombay High Court Complex in Bandra
Company Name : Private Company
Project Detail :Renowned architect Hafeez Contractor has been appointed by the Maharashtra government to design the new Bombay High Court complex at Bandra East. The decision follows the judiciary’s rejection of an earlier design by the Public Works Department (PWD). The selection was made through an architectural competition.
The new complex will be built on nearly 30 acres of government land in Kherwadi, Bandra East. The foundation stone was laid by former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud in September 2024. The proposed facility will include 75 courtrooms, residential quarters for judges, staff housing, an arbitration and mediation centre, an auditorium, a library, and other modern amenities.
The new High Court complex is being developed to address space constraints at the historic Fort building, which was originally designed for 15 judges but now houses 29 courts with 35 Judges. The total sanctioned strength has grown to 94.
The remaining 60 acres of the 90-acre government colony will see the construction of 10 high-rises, replacing the aging structures originally built between 1958 and 1973.
