| Project Detail : | Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has announced that the Sairang Railway Station, in Aizawl district, will be developed into a world-class station. This decision follows a discussion with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who agreed to the state government’s proposal. The CM also confirmed that the state’s request for Rajdhani Express services from Sairang to Delhi, Kolkata, and Agartala has been approved. Emphasising the importance of reinforcing the inner line permit (ILP) system, the CM noted that the increased connectivity through the railway will lead to a greater influx of non-tribals. He further highlighted the nearing completion of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), which aims to connect Mizoram and the northeastern region with the Sittwe port (formerly Akyab) in Myanmar. Once completed, the project will transform southern Mizoram into a key trade gateway for South Asia and the entire northeast region. A study team led by the state chief secretary has been formed to ensure preparedness for the project’s impact on the region’s economy and society. |
