| Project Title : | Oil India finds hydrocarbons in Brahmaputra’s North Bank, assesses commercial viability |
| Company Name : | Oil India Limited |
| Project Detail : | Oil India (OIL) has established the presence of hydrocarbons at Kobochapori on the North Bank of the Brahmaputra River, and is currently assessing its commercial viability, CMD Ranjit Rath announced in Guwahati on 02 June, 2025. "Based on our concerted strategy driven exploration we have established the presence of hydrocarbons at a place called Kobochapori. This is an open acreage licensing block," he said. The company is conducting further seismic surveys and planning additional drilling to determine the well’s potential. Seismic data has been acquired for the entire North Bank, including regions like Biswanath Chariali and Mangaldoi, and international consultants have been engaged for analysis. CMD Rath highlighted that OIL has carried out over 40 geological and geophysical studies in the last two years, identifying 90+ prospective drillable sites. The company also plans to resume exploration in Nagaland when the political climate permits. OIL has access to 3,000 sq. km in Nagaland, and a MoU is being discussed between Assam and Nagaland to allow oil exploration in disputed border areas. |
