| Project Detail : | Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has achieved a world record in tunnel construction for the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Broad Gauge Rail Link project in Uttarakhand by boring 790 mtrs. in a single month using a single-shield hard rock Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named ‘Shiv’. The record-setting feat was accomplished on June 29, aday ahead of schedule. The 13.09-km-long downline tunnel, completed with TBM ‘Shiv’, runs parallel to a 14.57-km upline tunnel, which had its breakthrough on April 16. Both twin tunnels are part of the 125-km strategic rail link project between Rishikesh and Karnaprayag, expected to be completed by December 2026. These tunnels are located between Devprayag and Janasu. Whole-Time Director at L&T, S V Desai stated, “The TBM team has broken the world record by achieving a maximum progress of 790 metres in a month using single-shield hard rock TBM named Shiv.” |
