| Project Detail : | The low-height barrage-cum-bridge project over the Koel river at Hamirpur in Odisha is expected to accelerate post-monsoon, with a revised completion target of June 2026. The project aims to secure drinking water supply for Koel Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Jagda under Rourkela Municipal Corporation, and part of the Rourkela Steel Plant township. It also includes provisions for irrigation and connectivity across the river. As per sources, about 66 percent of structural work is complete. The barrage-cum-bridge spans 446.1 mtrs. with a two-lane road of 7.5 mtrs. width. Around 60 acres are needed for approach roads and guide walls. The Rs 309 crore (excluding GST and land acquisition) project was awarded in September 2022 with a 30-month timeline. Major work began only in January 2024 due to delays in design finalisation. Superintending Engineer Dhananjay Kala said construction would pick up after the monsoon and land acquisition is ongoing. The project is expected to irrigate approx. 1,200 hectares and stabilise potential for mega lift irrigation. |
