| Project Detail : | The Town Development Council of Assam has announced the construction of an inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) in Sribhumi, aimed at addressing urban traffic congestion and upgrading transport infrastructure. The project was unveiled by newly appointed Chairman Bishwarup Bhattacharya during a press conference in Guwahati. Designed as a major transit hub for thousands of daily commuters between Assam and neighboring states, the terminal will span 15 acres and include arrival and departure bays, digital ticketing, lounges, sanitation blocks, food courts, and multi-level parking. The facility is expected to reduce city-centre traffic, improve commuter convenience, and lower pollution. With an estimated budget of Rs 320 crore, the project is backed by the Assam government and multilateral financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank, with possible public-private partnership (PPP) involvement. Construction is slated to begin this year and will be completed in phases by mid-2027. The project will create employment for over 500 individuals and is anticipated to stimulate local economic growth in logistics, retail, and hospitality sectors. ASTC and private operators will coordinate its operations. |
