Project Title :Ministry of Jal Shakti reviews Amritsar Bulk Water Supply project
Company Name : Private Company
Project Detail :A three-member team from the Ministry of Jal Shakti visited the Valla-based site of the Amritsar Bulk Water Supply Scheme (ABWSS) to assess its progress. The project, led by the Punjab Government under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, aims to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to Amritsar’s residents by shifting from groundwater to surface water sourced from the Upper Bari Doab Canal (UBDC).
Senior Construction Manager Ashwani Sharma informed the visiting team—comprising Bhart Bhushan Verma (Deputy CEO, Jal Shakti Abhiyan), Scientist Dr. Shashikant, and district nodal officer Satnam Singh—about the project’s key components. These include a 440 million litres/day treatment plant, a 112-km pipeline network, and the construction of 45 new water storage tanks, along with the renovation of 24 existing ones.
The CEO stressed that ABWSS would aid groundwater conservation and sustainability. Upon completion, the system will ensure 24/7 ISO-standard water supply and real-time monitoring through SCADA technology, replacing the current limited daily supply.
