| Project Detail : | Arvind, a leading Ahmedabad-based textile manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a new textile facility in Gujarat focused on producing cotton woven and knit fabrics. The proposed plant aims to achieve a 93 percent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and save 60 litres of water per kilogram of fabric manufactured. This initiative is part of the “Future Forward Factories India” programme, developed in collaboration with Fashion for Good. As part of the initiative, Arvind will help develop a comprehensive, open-source, and modular blueprint for sustainable tier-2 textile manufacturing. The goal is to provide an industry-wide model that promotes environmentally conscious operations across the textile sector. The project includes a first-of-its-kind physical facility that demonstrates these sustainability principles in real-time. The implementation of this facility represents a substantial investment to validate the commercial and environmental feasibility of innovative manufacturing methods. “This initiative brings innovation from concept to reality, putting ‘money on the ground’,” the company stated. However, the success of the physical facility may depend on viability gap funding support from industry stakeholders, ensuring that some of the more advanced innovations remain financially sustainable in the long term. |
