Project Title :Biogas plant for waste-to-energy conversion to come up in Bhubaneshwar
Company Name : Private Company
Project Detail :A biogas-based captive power plant will soon be established at the Unit-I vegetable market in the capital city as part of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) sustainable waste management initiatives. The plant will scientifically process organic waste into green energy, marking a major step in eco-friendly waste disposal.
According to BMC Deputy Commissioner for sanitation N Ganesh Babu, the Unit-I haat currently generates around 16 to 17 tonnes of organic waste daily. A pilot biogas plant with an initial capacity of three tonne per day (TPD) will be developed on a 3,500 sq. ft. area within the market’s micro composting centre (MCC) complex. “The generated biogas in the plant will be converted into electric power and transferred to the public grid,” he said. “If found feasible, the capacity will be expanded further.”
A tender has already been floated to select an agency for the plant’s installation and its maintenance for five years. Additionally, six garbage transfer stations will be set up citywide. Waste from these will be directed to the 150-tonne Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Palasuni, and the upcoming 200-tonne compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Meherpalli.
