| Project Detail : | Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for the Kalaignar International Convention Centre at Muttukadu along East Coast Road on 29 May, 2025. The Rs 525-crore project will span 38 acres, featuring a 10,000-seat exhibition hall, a 5,000-seat convention centre, and a 1,500-seat auditorium across a built-up area of 5.12 lakh sq ft. Designed with central air-conditioning, elevators, EV charging stations, and parking for over 1,600 cars and 1,700 two-wheelers, the centre is set to host global summits, expos, concerts, and cultural events. Located just outside Chennai’s city limits, it aims to reduce traffic congestion and logistical issues currently faced at existing venues like YMCA grounds and Chennai Trade Centre. The CM also inaugurated infrastructure projects worth Rs 499.08 crore, including four-laning of the Malliyakarai-Rasipuram-Tiruchengode-Erode road, a new flyover in Madurai, and housing for Irular families in Ranipet. He opened a Rs 68.38-crore road overbridge in Madurai and launched Rs 571.92-crore urban development and water supply works, including underground drainage in Chennai, bridges, sanitation upgrades, and 50 new municipal service vehicles to boost civic amenities across Tamil Nadu. |
