Project Detail :In a major boost to India’s long-term development agenda, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed USD 10 billion (approx. Rs 83,000 crore) over the next five years to support the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The announcement was made by ADB President Masato Kanda following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Masato Kanda affirmed ADB’s commitment through a combination of its own resources and third-party capital. The funding will focus on upgrading municipal infrastructure, expanding metro networks, constructing new regional rapid transit system (RRTS) corridors, and modernising core urban services.
India, a founding member of ADB since 1966 plays a key role in ADB’s regional development strategy. ADB highlights the importance of scaling up public and private financing, enhancing knowledge collaboration, and mobilising investments to help India meet its 2047 goals.
The investment is aligned with India’s push to build sustainable, resilient cities, improve urban living conditions.
