| Project Title : | Rs 171.51-cr Drinking Water project in Odisha remains incomplete in Odisha. |
| Company Name : | Private Company |
| Project Detail : | A mega drinking water project Baliapal block in Balasore district of Odisha launched in 2021 with a sanctioned budget of Rs 171.51 crore remains incomplete. The project was intended to provide safe drinking water by purifying Subarnarekha River water and supplying it to all households across 21 panchayats, benefiting 33,183 people. Despite the official completion deadline of August 2024, only 50 percent of the work has been completed. Blue Star, the construction firm responsible for implementation, has failed to meet the timeline. Further, local residents have raised concerns over the substandard quality of work, citing damaged or incomplete pipelines and water tanks that are either leaking or delivering unclean water. Being a coastal region, Baliapal faces acute freshwater scarcity, with tube wells turning saline and groundwater levels plunging during the summer months. The delay has further worsened the region’s water stress, exacerbating public dissatisfaction and health risks, as Baliapal ranks second in the state for groundwater depletion. |
