| Project Detail : | The Ministry of Coal, in its second action plan for FY26, announced plans to conduct three auctions for 25 commercial coal mines to enhance domestic coal production, curb imports, and strengthen long-term energy security. As part of the broader target to operationalise 100 new mines by FY30, the ministry aims to create an additional annual coal production capacity of 500 million tonne (MT). In FY25, 13 new mines were made operational, contributing 83 MT to this goal. Looking ahead, seven commercial mines are expected to commence production in FY26. These initiatives form part of the government’s strategic push to meet the rising energy demand through increased domestic coal availability. The auctions and production targets are intended to reduce dependence on imported coal, ensuring energy affordability and security while promoting self-reliance in the energy sector. The action plan emphasises timely project execution and collaborative efforts with stakeholders to meet the long-term production targets. |
