| Project Detail : | Gujarat government will invest Rs 29,000 crore in developing the third Green Energy Corridor (GEC-III) to transmit 16,500 MW of renewable power across key regions of the state. The state government is undertaking a major infrastructure expansion to support its green energy goals, with renewable energy comprising 58 percent of Gujarat’s installed power capacity. The GEC-III will establish transmission connectivity from renewable energy zones in Kutch, Jamnagar-Bet Dwarka, Banaskantha-Patan, and central Gujarat. The project includes 3,430 circuit km of transmission lines through six 765 kV substations and 860 circuit km via four 400 kV substations. Four statcoms will also be deployed to ensure stable power quality. This initiative follows GEC-I (Rs 1,932 crore for 4,000MW) and GEC-II (Rs 3,636 crore, set for completion by March 2027). GEC-III is integral to building a future-ready power grid in the state which can integrate intermittent solar and wind energy sources effectively. The government is modernising its distribution network under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS), incorporating underground cabling, loss reduction, and digital tools to deliver affordable, reliable, and high-quality power across all sectors. |
