| Project Detail : | Indian stainless steel maker Jindal Stainless Limited (BOM:532508) has contracted 16,500 MWh of solar power annually from local renewables developer Sunsure Energy to cover 40% of the power needs of a Uttar Pradesh-based subsidiary with green energy. The 11-MWp long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) is tied to a 49-MWp solar project in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh. The clean electricity will be supplied to the Indian stainless steel manufacturer’s Ghaziabad-based subsidiary JSL Super Steel. The transaction supports Jindal Stainless’ short-term goal of halving its carbon emissions by 2035. The company, which says it is the first in India to integrate a green hydrogen plant for stainless steel production, plans to invest INR 7 billion (USD 81m/EUR 73m) in decarbonisation projects over the next five years. |
