| Project Detail : | The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved Housing Policy 2025, aiming to construct 35 lakh affordable homes by 2030 with a projected investment of Rs 70,000 crore. Announced under the initiative "Majhe Ghar - Majhe Adhikar", the policy is designed to benefit the economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower income groups (LIG) across the state. A major feature of the policy is support for self-redevelopment of ageing buildings, with Rs 2,000 crore allocated to a new dedicated cell that will assist cooperative housing societies in planning, financing, selecting developers, and executing redevelopment projects independently. The policy also introduces a rent-to-own model, targeting working women, students, and industrial workers. This model allows tenants to occupy homes for up to 10 years with an option to purchase them later, providing long-term housing stability. Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde emphasised the need to contribute significantly to a Rs 20,000 crore viability gap fund recommended by NITI Aayog for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s G-Hub. This contribution, through the Affordable Housing Fund, is expected to boost investor confidence and foster inclusive urban development. |
