| Project Detail : | JSL Super Steel, a subsidiary of Jindal Stainless, has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Sunsure Energy, an independent power producer. Under this agreement, JSL Super Steel will source 11 MWp of solar energy from Sunsure’s 49 MWp solar project in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh. This strategic move will supply the company with 16.5 million units (MUs) of clean energy annually, contributing to a 40 percent reduction in its conventional energy consumption. The initiative is aligned with Jindal Stainless' broader sustainability goals and forms part of the Uttar Pradesh State Power Banking Policy. By adopting solar energy, the Ghaziabad-based JSL Super Steel aims to offset approx. 12 million kg of carbon emissions each year, significantly reducing its environmental footprint. Wholetime Director and Chief Operating Officer of Jindal Stainless, Jagmohan Sood, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainability: “This partnership is also a part of Jindal Stainless’ short-term goal of reducing 50 per cent carbon emissions by 2035. As leaders in the stainless steel industry, we deem it our responsibility to usher in cleaner routes of production such as introduction of green hydrogen, use of biofuels, increasing renewable energy share from the grid, etc. at every step of the value chain.” The company’s transition to solar power demonstrates a tangible step toward achieving its carbon reduction targets and enhancing the overall energy efficiency of its production processes. |
